Bailable warrants issued against Tarn Taran SSP

by TheReportingTimes

CHANDIGARH, Oct 4 — The Punjab and Haryana High Court has ordered the issuance of bailable warrants against the Tarn Taran Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) for failing to comply with court directions to file a fresh status report in two connected criminal revision petitions.

Presiding over the matter, Justice Namit Kumar reprimanded the police for repeated delays and observed that multiple adjournments and explicit instructions had been issued over several months. The SSP was also directed to submit a personal affidavit explaining the reasons for not filing the report.

“Despite clear orders and repeated reminders, the SSP neither filed the status report nor appeared before the court,” the Bench noted.

The court’s order comes after the state counsel was initially granted time to file a fresh status report on July 23. The matter was subsequently adjourned to August 22 and then to September 9. On September 9, the court noted that two reminder emails had been sent on July 23 and August 25 to the SSP, the SHO concerned, and the Parvi Cell, but no response was received.

The High Court had granted a final opportunity, directing the SSP to file an affidavit explaining the failure and warning of personal appearance in case of default. When the case resumed, the report was still not filed and the officer was absent.

Taking a stern view, the court ordered: “Let bailable warrants be issued against Senior Superintendent of Police, Tarn Taran, for October 13.”
