SRINAGAR, Oct 27 — The Jammu and Kashmir government on Monday said the proposed Gondola project in Pahalgam has been temporarily halted as the executing agency awaits permission from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to resume surveys and technical assessments.

Tourism Minister informed that the Jammu and Kashmir Cable Car Corporation (JKCCC) had already completed the tender process and engaged a consultant for the preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR). “All preliminary formalities were completed, but the work was stopped following security restrictions imposed after the Pahalgam terror attack,” he said.

He added that the alignment for the 1.4-kilometre ropeway had already been finalised. “The lower terminal point will be located near Yatri Niwas and the upper terminal point at Baisaran. Approximately 9.13 hectares of Forest Department land have been identified for the project,” he said.

The project, estimated to cost between ₹100 crore and ₹120 crore, is intended to enhance tourism infrastructure in the scenic valley town. The minister said the executing agency has formally sought permission to conduct topographical and geo-technical studies at the site.

“The matter is presently under consideration with the NIA,” the minister said, quoting a communication from the Deputy Commissioner, Anantnag.

He further said that construction will begin immediately once the NIA clearance is received. “The completion period is expected to be around 18 months from the date of commencement,” he added.
