Chandigarh, July 21: Punjab Minister for Revenue and Rehabilitation Hardeep Singh Mundian declared that the state government has streamlined official property documentation by adopting simplified Punjabi words in place of thirty-five traditional revenue terms. Speaking on the welfare initiative, the minister maintained that the decision reflects the administration’s commitment to enhancing transparency and simplifying public service delivery. He affirmed that removing archaic technical words will help property owners navigate registration processes with complete clarity.
The Revenue, Rehabilitation and Disaster Management Department established a committee to review the traditional lexicon and suggest accessible equivalents. Minister Mundian stated that the committee’s recommendations led to the systematic replacement of decades-old Persian, Urdu, and complex administrative vocabulary. He asserted that clear terminology will eliminate reliance on intermediaries and ensure that citizens fully understand their property documents.
State authorities have issued directives to regional offices, instructing all registration officials to implement the simplified terms immediately. Key modifications include replacing Tarmeem with Sodh or Darusti, Faut with Maut, Muntaqil with Tabdeel, Mazkoor with Uparokat, and Hasab Zabta with Kanoon Anusar. The minister declared that Deputy Commissioners across all districts will monitor the transition to guarantee smooth implementation and improved readability in land transactions.
