Bomb threat on Air India’s Toronto-Delhi flight declared non-specific

New Delhi, Nov 13: A bomb threat targeting Air India’s Toronto-Delhi flight prompted an emergency security response on Thursday before the aircraft landed safely at Indira Gandhi International Airport, officials said.

Delhi Police received a message in the morning claiming a possible bomb on Air India flight AI188. Authorities immediately activated emergency protocols, forming a Bomb Threat Assessment Committee (BTAC) to evaluate the situation.

Sources said the committee later classified the threat as “non-specific,” but all precautionary procedures were followed in coordination with airport security agencies.

An Air India spokesperson said the airline received a security alert while the flight was in cruise. “The on-board crew carried out all required security drills, prioritising the safety and security of passengers,” the spokesperson said.

The Boeing 777 aircraft landed safely in Delhi around 3:40 p.m. and was directed to a remote bay for a complete inspection. “All passengers and crew have disembarked safely,” the airline said, adding that the security check was conducted as per standard operating procedure.

The AI188 flight from Toronto to Delhi typically operates for over 15 hours, data from Flightradar24 showed.

Officials noted that additional security checks remain in force at all Indian airports after a recent blast incident in the capital, including compulsory secondary screening at boarding gates.
