Central Leadership Steps In To Steady Punjab Congress

Internal huddles intensify as Channi and Warring factions consolidate support

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, July 6: The Congress central leadership has launched a proactive outreach campaign in Chandigarh, deploying three national co-incharges to address internal friction ahead of a critical assessment by state incharge Bhupesh Baghel. Suraj Thakur, Ravindra Dalvi, and Hina Kavre are holding active consultations with local representatives to smooth over differences that emerged after the party reaffirmed its trust in Amrinder Singh Raja Warring as the state unit president.

The primary challenge for the visiting central delegation involves bridging the gap with representatives who recently gathered for a significant show of strength at former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi’s Morinda residence. Internal sources state that several figures from the Channi camp show clear reluctance to engage with Baghel during his visit, even as parallel efforts continue behind the scenes to pacify the disgruntled groups.

Strategy sessions have consumed both camps over the last forty-eight hours, with Warring personally holding consecutive meetings to reinforce his position. Observers within the party noted that those dissatisfied with the current leadership are attempting to establish a unified coalition to push for a change at the top, having already empowered Channi to negotiate their grievances with the central high command.

Seeking to lower the political temperature, Warring publically downplayed the significance of the rival meetings, downplaying any suggestions of a deep structural split.

“Channi Sahib is our elder brother, a senior leader and a former CM,” Warring maintained. “If some Congress leaders meet him at his residence, there is nothing wrong in that. Tomorrow, leaders may gather at my residence or at Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa’s home as well. That should not be interpreted as infighting.”

He concluded by reassuring party workers that organizational unity remains intact despite the intense internal deliberations.

“There is no factionalism in the Punjab Congress and all party leaders will appear together on a common stage in coming days,” Warring asserted.
