Chandigarh, Nov 26: Farmers thronged Dussehra Ground in Sector 43 on Wednesday afternoon to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the Dilli Chalo march, a protest that challenged the three farm laws of 2020.
The Samyukt Kisan Morcha, a coalition of roughly 30 farmer organisations, led the event. “This rally reflects the collective voice of farmers across the state,” said an SKM spokesperson.
Police kept a strong presence, with around 3,000 personnel stationed across the city, including near Panjab University, where another protest continues over delays in holding senate elections. “We are taking all precautions to maintain order and traffic flow,” a police official noted.
The UT administration allowed the gathering for three hours from noon, and inter-city borders with Mohali remained open. Traffic diversions were enforced in and around Sector 43 to minimize congestion, with commuters advised to plan alternate routes.
The alert comes after past traffic disruptions, particularly during protests tied to PU senate elections and earlier farmer rallies, prompting authorities to remain vigilant.
