Chandigarh institutions told to appoint nodal officers for dog issues

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, Dec 7: All educational institutions and universities in Chandigarh have been instructed to appoint nodal officers to oversee matters related to stray and community dogs on their premises, following directions from the Chandigarh administration.

MC commissioner Amit Kumar said campuses must strictly follow the Supreme Court order requiring complete boundary walls or fencing, sanitation checks and responsible waste management. “Institutions must ensure proper fencing and waste disposal so that dogs are not drawn inside the premises,” he said.

Kumar added that the municipal corporation will begin picking up dogs from campuses for ABC procedures only after institutions finish fencing and other preventive measures. “Once these steps are in place, the MC will start ABC pickups from institutional areas,” he said.

Officials said the cooperation of universities, schools and residents is crucial to reduce human–animal conflict and maintain safe campuses.
