Chandigarh Man Arrested for Mother’s Murder on Diwali

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, 21 October: A shocking Diwali morning turned tragic when a 40-year-old man allegedly killed his mother at their home in Sector 40, Chandigarh, police said on Tuesday.

Sushila Negi was found dead in her room with her throat slit after neighbours heard her screams around 7am. The door was locked from inside, prompting residents to enter through the roof. Inspector Ram Dayal of Sector 39 said, “It appears the accused, her son, had fled immediately after the attack.”

The accused, Ravinder Negi, alias Ravi, an employee of Panjab University’s examination branch, was arrested later in Sonepat. Police sources said Ravi had a history of mental health issues and frequent family disputes. On the morning of the incident, an argument with his mother escalated into violence.

Originally from Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand, Sushila had been living in Sector 40 for about ten years. Ravi’s wife and daughter live separately, and he had moved in with his mother six months ago. Her elder son resides nearby in Sector 41.

The body was sent to the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital, Sector 16, for post-mortem. Police are investigating the motive and reconstructing the events leading to the murder.
