Chandigarh Police Nab Two in Knife Robbery Case

Chandigarh Nov 7: Two men were arrested in connection with a knifepoint robbery of a cyclist near the Sector 33/45 dividing road, Chandigarh police said, recovering both the stolen mobile phone and the knife allegedly used during the attack.

The accused, Nitin (also called Tira), 23, and Parveen Swain, 29, both hailing from Burail, were apprehended following a complaint filed by the victim, Vijay Pal of Sector 36. Police noted that Nitin has a long-standing criminal record, with nine cases registered in the city.

According to Vijay Pal’s FIR, the incident occurred around 10 pm on November 4, while he was cycling home from Sector 45. “They asked me for a bidi, and when I said no, one of them held a knife to my back and the other grabbed my phone,” he said.

Responding to the report, Burail police post personnel, under Sector 34 police station, conducted a prompt investigation that led to the arrests. Authorities recovered the knife used in the crime from the accused.

A case has been filed under Sections 311 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. A senior officer added, “We are examining whether these individuals were involved in other robberies across the city and are looking into their movements over the past few weeks.”
