Jalandhar: Normal business activity came to a halt in Jalandhar as a coalition of Dalit groups, religious bodies, and civil society organizations observed a complete shutdown from morning until evening. The peaceful protest was organized in response to the reported desecration of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s statue in Ludhiana, drawing participation from various political fronts including the Congress and the Bahujan Samaj Party.
Protesters asserted that existing security protocols are inadequate to prevent recurring vandalism targeting revered figures. Local leaders declared that swift judicial and police action remains essential to restore public confidence and maintain communal harmony.
City representatives formally requested district authorities to deploy enhanced security frameworks, install modern surveillance systems, and execute preventative protocols to safeguard all public statues and community spaces against future incidents.
