CHANDIGARH, MAY 2 – The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has condemned the actions of opposition parties during a special session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, alleging that the BJP and Congress have prioritized political stunts over the welfare of the labour force. During the session held on May 1, AAP leaders declared that the opposition had “exposed their true face” by refusing to engage in meaningful dialogue regarding worker rights and legislative protections.
Aman Arora, the AAP Punjab State President, noted that the BJP’s absence and the Congress’s subsequent walkout were insults to the democratic process. He stated that the session provided an opportunity to discuss critical laws, yet the opposition opted for disruption. Arora affirmed that the conduct of these parties on such a significant day was shameful and served to suppress important government initiatives.
Harpal Singh Cheema supported these claims, noting that the BJP is actively working to weaken the Constitution and dismantle essential schemes like MGNREGA. He asserted that the recent ₹994 hike in commercial gas prices is a deliberate blow to small-scale entrepreneurs and workers. Cheema also dismissed recent opposition attacks on the Chief Minister, stating that the Congress is conspiring to divert attention from land encroachment allegations involving its own leadership.
Addressing rumors of internal party friction, Punjab Chief Spokesperson Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal declared that the party remains entirely unified. He noted that the BJP’s attempt to hold a “parallel assembly” was merely a political stunt born out of their lack of legislative numbers. “They can make as many attempts as they want but they will not succeed in forming a government in Punjab,” Dhaliwal stated.
The session also saw strong affirmations from MLA Anmol Gagan Maan, who affirmed her unwavering loyalty to the party’s ideology. Media In-charge Baltej Pannu added to the critique by stating that the BJP should focus on its governance record in states like Manipur and Uttar Pradesh before criticizing Punjab, which he declared to be the safest state in the country today.
