Chandigarh, August 3: Road safety and infrastructure delays took center stage during the first day of the Punjab Assembly’s monsoon session on Monday, with local representative Kulwant Singh raising questions regarding the PR-7 Airport Road in Mohali. The legislator emphasized that the busy arterial route requires urgent technical corrections to prevent ongoing traffic mishaps.
The issue revolves around an ‘S’-shaped bend created to route around Gurdwara Mata Sundri Sahib, which has become a major accident hotspot over the years.
Explaining the history of the project, MLA Kulwant Singh stated that a formal agreement involving financial compensation and alternate land was framed as far back as 2011. He declared that despite repeated formal communications from the department, administrative inaction resulted in the intended exchange falling through when the alternate land was disposed of elsewhere.
The representative affirmed that religious authorities remain open to discussion, calling on the state government to proactively engage with the management to clear legal and physical hurdles.
In response, the Minister stated that senior officers from the relevant department will be called for a direct meeting to address the land transfer bottleneck and implement long-term safety measures on the stretch.
