MOHALI, July 28 — A series of field raids targeting illegal mineral extraction in Mohali district led to the registration of several police complaints after inspectors discovered active excavation operations along riverbeds and private land parcels. The month-long survey revealed six illegal operations operating without departmental permits, resulting in the unauthorized removal of over 12.79 lakh cubic feet of material.
Officials reported that enforcement personnel faced active resistance and evasion during field operations in vulnerable corridors.
During an inspection at Bijanpur, mining officials detected an active JCB machine digging earth illegally, though the operator managed to escape with the equipment before officers could impound the vehicle. Law enforcement authorities declared that a separate case was registered in Dera Bassi after individuals attempted to obstruct government officials during an anti-mining operation, while another complaint in Peer Muchhalla addressed the unlawful extraction of gravel from the Ghaggar riverbed.
District authorities asserted that police complaints have been lodged against unidentified individuals pending formal land demarcation reports from revenue authorities. State officials maintained that administrative action will be intensified as soon as land records establish the identity of the property owners involved.
