NEW DELHI, Sept 24: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi raised strong objections regarding the management of India’s electoral system, directing his critique at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Speaking at a press conference at Indira Bhawan, Gandhi called for the immediate stepping down of the Chief Election Commissioner.
The Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha declared that the current handling of votes undermines core constitutional safeguards designed to protect democratic choices. He affirmed that the opposition intends to pursue legal and political avenues to address these concerns, maintaining that silence on matters affecting electoral integrity is not an option.
Referring to senior government figures, Gandhi stated that formal investigations would eventually be conducted to review the overarching framework and decisions that led to the present scenario. He remarked that full disclosure by electoral officials would serve the national interest.
To highlight his points, Gandhi screened video footage containing election statements, including long-term power projections and major victory targets. He stated that in any functioning democracy, political outcomes remain subject to public anti-incumbency, making absolute political assurances inconsistent with democratic norms.
