by TheReportingTimes

LEH, AUGUST 13: Early morning tremors were felt across Leh as a 5.5-magnitude earthquake occurred at a depth of ten kilometres in the Ladakh region. Local authorities affirmed that the situation remains under control, with no reports of casualties or severe damage to buildings.

The National Centre for Seismology maintained that the event was registered shortly after six o’clock in the morning. In a official update released online, the monitoring body declared, “EQ of M: 5.5, On: 13/08/2026 06:05:15 IST, Lat: 36.881 N, Long: 74.402 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Leh, Ladakh.”

According to scientific standards established by global geological services, earthquakes occurring at a depth of less than 70 meters fall into the shallow category. While such quakes typically transfer stronger motion to the surface compared to deep-focus events, prompt assessments from the ground confirm that normal life remains uninterrupted across the district.
