New Delhi, July 21: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi asserted that the central government must address the concerns of students following a recent police action on demonstrators, stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should apologize for the treatment meted out to the youth. Addressing the media, the Leader of the Opposition maintained that the use of force against peaceful student groups was completely unwarranted. He affirmed that the youth are raising valid issues that require constructive dialogue rather than administrative pressure.
Gandhi declared that an Opposition delegation met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to request a structured debate inside Parliament regarding the incident. The Congress leader claimed that the Speaker deferred the decision, stating that clearance from the executive would be required before taking up the discussion. Expressing disappointment over the outcome, Gandhi asserted that Parliament must function as a space where vital public matters are discussed openly.
Critiquing the broader management of national examinations, Gandhi asserted that systemic improvements are essential to restore confidence among aspirants. Joining the critique, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav maintained that the government should focus on institutional transparency and ensure that student grievances are handled with utmost sensitivity and care.
