Deliberations Submitted Over Punjab Congress Structure

No Hasty Decisions On State Leadership, says Punjab In-Charge

by TheReportingTimes

New Delhi/Chandigarh, July 15: Senior Congress leaders have accelerated organizational assessments regarding the Punjab unit as Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa joined top-level consultations at the residence of AICC general secretary K.C. Venugopal. This follows the formal submission of a comprehensive assessment report by Punjab in-charge Bhupesh Baghel, who completed nearly a week of direct dialogue with state representatives. The party’s core leadership, including Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, has been actively evaluating the feedback to address internal divisions and streamline the state unit.

The internal assessment brought together numerous key figures from the region, including former assembly members and current lawmakers, to evaluate the party’s position for the 2027 state elections. Prominent participants in the feedback process included Aruna Chaudhary, OP Soni, Pargat Singh, Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, and Sangat Singh Gilzian. While participants clarified that personal differences were not the focus, discussions centered heavily on the organizational direction needed for future political success.

Baghel reassured party members that the central leadership intends to handle the matter with the utmost seriousness and will not engage in rushed organizational changes. He confirmed that current state chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring remains in his position.

“I met leaders from across the state, both in meetings at the Punjab Congress Committee office and through one-to-one interactions. Based on those discussions, I have submitted my report to Venugopal,” Baghel affirmed.

The extensive consultation process involved detailed discussions with nearly a hundred political figures to ensure all viewpoints were represented in the final document. The high command will now systematically evaluate the findings to ensure the unit remains unified and prepared for upcoming electoral challenges.

The Punjab in-charge reiterated that the party prefers a structured, mature approach to internal governance rather than reacting to external speculation. He asserted that leadership changes cannot be handled like “a game of puppets or dolls”, indicating that the Congress high command would take a considered call after examining the feedback received from party leaders.
