Chandigarh, August 23: Tragedy struck the Indian diaspora after 28-year-old Gurdeep Singh was fatally shot in Brooklyn, New York, while carrying out food delivery duties. The Kapurthala native had resided in the United States since 2017, earning a livelihood through delivery services to assist his family back home in Jabowal village.
Family representatives stated that the late delivery partner faced persistent financial challenges after arriving in the country but remained committed to clearing debts through relentless daily labor. Local authorities suspect a robbery attempt led to the shooting, though full investigative findings are still pending from local law enforcement.
Reiterating the need for stronger safety guarantees, diaspora leadership asserted that repeated violent encounters severely impact immigrant families. Advocacy groups affirmed that police departments must ensure comprehensive protections for all workers and cautioned against reaching premature conclusions before official investigations wrap up.
