Patna, April 15: Samrat Choudhary was inducted as the state’s Chief Minister on Wednesday morning. The event signifies the first time a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party has held the position, ending a two-decade era led primarily by Nitish Kumar.
Choudhary’s elevation comes after a career in the state cabinet, where he most recently managed the Home and Deputy Chief Minister portfolios. The reorganization of the state leadership became necessary after Nitish Kumar stepped down to move to the Rajya Sabha. The new cabinet structure maintains the NDA alliance, with Bijendra Prasad Yadav and Vijay Kumar Chaudhary taking their oaths as Deputy Chief Ministers during the same ceremony.
“This is not merely a position for me, but a sacred opportunity to serve the people of Bihar,” Choudhary declared. He maintained that he is committed to fulfilling the trust placed in him by the party’s central leadership and the public.
The political transition follows a period of suspense that concluded when Choudhary was unanimously elected as the BJP’s legislative leader. Having secured a landslide victory in the previous assembly elections, the BJP asserted its role as the dominant partner in the state coalition. Following the formal resignation of his predecessor, Choudhary presented his credentials to Governor Syed Ata Hasnain to initiate the formation of the first-ever BJP-led government in the state’s history.
