Ludhaina, Feb 5: A 67-year-old newspaper hawker underwent emergency surgery at DMC Hospital after being attacked and robbed by two masked men in the New Shimlapuri area early Thursday. The victim, identified as Vinod, was heading to collect his morning papers when he was intercepted, stabbed with a sharp weapon, and left in a pool of blood.

The incident occurred around 5:05 am while Vinod was traveling toward Ghanta Ghar on his scooter. According to his family, the assailants chased him on a motorcycle and eventually blocked his path near the Tutiyan Wala Mandir in Daresi. After being knocked off his vehicle, the victim was reportedly kicked and assaulted until he lost consciousness.

The attackers fled the scene with approximately Rs 4,000 in cash and the victim’s mobile phone.

“When I rushed to see my father, I was shocked to see him lying in a pool of blood. He had severe head injuries and internal injuries as well,” the victim’s son, Akhil, said.

The victim managed to contact his family with the help of a passerby following the assault. Medical staff at DMC Hospital noted that the elderly man suffered significant internal trauma, necessitating immediate surgical intervention.

“I want justice for my father, and the accused should be put behind bars immediately,” Akhil said.
