SULTANPUR LODHI, Aug. 9 — An 80-year-old woman died Friday after falling while boarding a bus at Dudwindi bus stop in Punjab’s Sultanpur Lodhi, police said.

The victim, Krishna Kaur of Mothanwal village in Kapurthala district, slipped as she tried to get onto the bus. She fell to the ground and a tyre ran over her leg, fracturing a bone, according to police.

Bystanders and police rushed her to the Civil Hospital in Sultanpur Lodhi, but she died during treatment. “She was healthy and cheerful when she left home,” a family member said, alleging negligence by the bus driver and conductor. The family has demanded strict legal action.

Police said Kaur was headed to Bootan village in Kapurthala district to tie a rakhi to her brother when the accident happened.

Sultanpur Lodhi Station House Officer Sonamdeep Kaur said the body will be sent for a post-mortem examination and family statements will be recorded before further proceedings.
