LUDHIANA, Apr 19 — Two unidentified men riding a scooter snatched a gold earring from a 70-year-old woman sitting outside her home in Ajit Nagar on Friday evening, injuring her severely in the process.
The victim, Balvir Kaur, was chatting with other women along the street when the assailants struck. “They snatched one earring and sped off. My mother fell on the road and suffered injuries,” her son Gurwinder Singh said. She was rushed to a hospital, where four stitches were applied to her ear.
Gurwinder said he was at work when the incident happened and returned immediately after being informed. He added that women in the locality have increasingly become targets of street crime. “Just three days ago, another woman’s gold chain was snatched in the same area,” he noted.
ASI Lakhvir Singh, in-charge of the Dharampur police post, said an FIR has been registered under relevant sections and a probe has been launched. “The accused were captured on CCTV, and we have identified the scooter’s number plate. However, it was found to be fake. We are tracking them down and arrests will be made soon,” he mentioned.
The case has been registered at Division Number 3 police station.
