Ludhiana, Apr 27 — An elderly woman was robbed of her gold bracelet in Aggar Nagar, one of the city’s upscale areas, on Friday evening.
The incident marks a return of a modus operandi last seen four years ago, when a notorious gang was apprehended by the police.
The victim, Harjinder Kaur, 72, of Aggar Nagar B-block, was returning home after visiting a local gurdwara at around 8 pm when two women in a car approached her.
Claiming to be acquaintances, they forced her into the car, where two men were also present. After robbing her of a gold bracelet, the gang sped away.
Despite Kaur’s attempts to raise the alarm, the robbers escaped before locals could intervene. She later informed her family and alerted the police.
The Sarabha Nagar police have lodged an FIR under Section 304 (snatching) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the culprits.
This incident mirrors a series of similar robberies committed by a gang that was apprehended in 2021.
The gang, which had been active in Punjab and Haryana, was involved in multiple snatchings across various cities, including Ludhiana, Amritsar, Jalandhar, and Haryana.
During their arrest, the police recovered a significant amount of gold jewelry and other stolen items.
ASI Purshotam Lal, who is investigating the case, noted that the accused used to lure elderly women under the guise of offering lifts or engaging them in friendly conversation before robbing them.
