CHANDIGARH, May 5: — Four individuals were arrested and significant quantities of narcotics were recovered in separate anti-drug operations carried out across Chandigarh, police said. The arrests were made under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in three unrelated cases that unfolded over two days.
According to officials, the largest haul came from a raid conducted by Maloya police near Sharam Buru Bhawan, Sector 38 West, on Friday.
Officers apprehended Bablu, 45, and a 40-year-old woman, both residents of the same address. The duo was found in possession of 9.324 kilograms of ganja.
“The arrest was made following sustained surveillance in the area,” a police spokesperson said.
“The seized contraband points to a wider distribution network, which we are actively investigating.”
In a separate operation, the Industrial Area police acted on a tip-off and arrested 20-year-old Honey Kumar, a resident of Chauinda Devi village in Amritsar, Punjab. Kumar was apprehended near the cremation ground in Phase 1 on Friday with 41.83 grams of heroin.
“This arrest underlines how inter-state trafficking continues to influence local supply chains,” said an official from the Industrial Area station.
“We are tracing the source and his potential connections within Punjab and Chandigarh.”
A third arrest occurred on Saturday in Manimajra, where local police detained 25-year-old Dinesh, also known as Bagga.
The son of Vijay Kumar and a resident of Manimajra, Dinesh was caught with 6.39 grams of heroin. He was intercepted along a kacha rasta near Government Model High School, Pocket No. 8.
All suspects have been booked under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and further investigations are underway.
“Each of these seizures sends a strong message,” a senior officer said.
“Our teams are committed to tackling drug abuse and trafficking at every level—from peddlers to larger rackets.”
