Ludhiana, May 3 — A wanted member of the Gopi Lahoria gang was critically injured and arrested following a gunfight with police in Bagge Kalan village near Ladhowal, authorities said Saturday.
The encounter unfolded during a police operation aimed at recovering weapons linked to an earlier shooting at a Subhash Nagar residence.
The accused, identified as Sumit, sustained serious injuries in the exchange, which saw multiple rounds fired.
“One of our officers had a close call—a bullet grazed his turban,” said Ludhiana Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma.
“We remain firm in our commitment. No one will be allowed to disturb peace in Ludhiana.”
Police recovered an illegal firearm and several live cartridges from the site.
Sumit is believed to be part of a larger network, several of whose members have already been arrested in a case registered at Tibba police station.
This is the second such confrontation in recent days.
On May 1, police engaged in a similar 40-minute encounter with a key Landa gang operative in Sahibana village, ending in his arrest after he opened fire on law enforcement.
Authorities said the operations are part of a broader crackdown targeting organized crime syndicates operating in the region.
