Govt Teachers to Follow Dress Code After Summer Vacations

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, Apr 27 — Starting after the summer vacations, teachers in Chandigarh’s government schools will be adhering to a new dress code, marking a first-of-its-kind initiative in the country.

The move, advised by UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria, applies to all 111 government schools in the city.

The dress code was officially introduced at the Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 14, Dhanas, in the presence of Kataria.

The dress code mandates that female teachers wear sarees or salwar kameez, while male teachers are required to wear formal shirts and trousers, according to the education department.

The department has ensured ample time for teachers to prepare their uniforms, with the dress code set to be implemented after the summer break.

The initiative is designed to create a unified, professional appearance among educators, which is expected to foster a positive learning environment.

Kataria praised the dress code, stating its role in promoting equality, professionalism, and a sense of pride among teaching staff.

“A unified dress code not only promotes equality among staff but also instills a sense of pride and professionalism,” he said.

UT Director of School Education Harsuhinder Pal Singh Brar added that the new uniform will strengthen the identity and integrity of the teaching community.

Teachers have been given sufficient time before the summer break to prepare for the transition.

This initiative was first proposed by Kataria in January during an event organized by the education department, where appointment letters were distributed to newly recruited nursery teachers.

Kataria had stressed that uniforms would symbolize unity, discipline, and the vital role teachers play in shaping society.
