Chandigarh, Sept 17 — More than five lakh farmers across Haryana have reported extensive crop damage on nearly 30 lakh acres following the recent floods, with the state’s Revenue Department now moving into a detailed verification process.
According to figures recorded on the e-Kshatipurti portal, which closed for registrations on September 15, a total of 5.03 lakh farmers from 23 districts filed claims for losses spanning 29,46,259 acres.
District-wise data show that Bhiwani topped the list with 76,419 farmers reporting damage on 4,52,709 acres, while Hisar followed closely, with 75,348 farmers citing losses on 4,54,045 acres. Mahendragarh reported 67,652 farmers affected across 2,86,158 acres.
Sirsa had 36,544 claimants covering 2,43,908 acres, and Jhajjar recorded 25,739 farmers with 1,63,784 acres under loss. In Rewari, 27,310 farmers claimed damage to 1,23,216 acres, while Charkhi Dadri saw 43,922 farmers reporting losses on 2,18,167 acres. Palwal recorded 19,553 farmers affected over 1,16,887 acres.
Some districts faced relatively minor impact: Karnal logged 1,998 farmers over 15,571 acres, Panipat 106 farmers over 7,599 acres, and Panchkula only 383 farmers reporting loss on 1,385 acres.
The Revenue Department has launched a multi-tier verification process to scrutinize claims. “At the first stage, patwaris are conducting checks, which will then be re-verified by kanungos, circle revenue officers, naib tehsildars, and tehsildars,” a senior department official said.
“District Revenue Officers and Sub-Divisional Magistrates will also cross-verify, while around five percent of the affected area will be rechecked by the Deputy Commissioner. Nearly two percent will further be reviewed by the Divisional Commissioner.”
The official added that the state government has fixed September 25 as the deadline to finalize all claims. “We appeal to farmers to extend full cooperation with officials during the verification exercise,” he noted.
