CHANDIGARH, June 28 — Haryana-cadre IPS officer Smiti Chaudhary, a 2012-batch officer currently posted as Superintendent of Police with the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), passed away in Nashik on Friday after a prolonged illness. She was 48.
Chaudhary, who had been on extended medical leave, breathed her last in Nashik, where she had been staying with her husband, Rajesh Kumar, a Maharashtra-cadre IPS officer and current director of the Maharashtra Police Academy.
The daughter of former Haryana IAS officer Jaiwanti Sheokand, Chaudhary belonged to a family of senior civil servants. Her brother, Yashendra Singh, is a serving IAS officer in Haryana.
Beginning her policing career as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in 2004, Chaudhary went on to serve in several key positions including Panchkula DSP, SP Lokayukta, and SP in the State Vigilance Bureau. She also served as SP Dadri before taking charge at the Anti-Corruption Bureau in September 2023.
Her passing has deeply saddened the administrative and police community in Haryana. Former Hisar MP Brijendra Singh, mourning her death, posted on X:
“I’m deeply saddened by the untimely demise of a member of our paternal family, Haryana IPS officer Smiti Chaudhary. Such untimely departure of a young officer is a profound loss to the family, friends and the civil services fraternity. May her soul rest in peace.”
Funeral arrangements were underway in Nashik as tributes continued to pour in from colleagues and civil servants across states, remembering her as a dedicated officer with a calm presence and sharp administrative acumen.
