Haryana Sanctions Major Water, Drainage Schemes

Rural and urban public utilities set for a massive upgrade

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, July 14: A major state-wide infrastructure drive is underway in Haryana following the approval of Rs 2,534 crore for more than 700 public utility projects. The new schemes focus heavily on rural water supply augmentation alongside extensive pipe replacements, new boosting stations, and modernized urban drainage networks.

Announced after the latest session of the Haryana Water Supply and Sewerage Board, the budget is designed to close existing service gaps between expanding cities and agricultural districts. The department has been told to move quickly to translate these allocations into active construction sites.

“Once completed, the projects would benefit residents in both urban and rural areas by substantially improving essential public services,” Public Health Engineering and Public Works Minister Ranbir Gangwa asserted. He stated that the state is working hard to enhance water resource management and ensure clean supply lines reach every doorstep.

For the countryside, the government has set aside Rs 203.58 crore for 13 Mahagram sewerage projects and Rs 71.58 crore for three Mahagram water supply projects, directly improving sanitation in large villages such as Ujjina, Babain, Ramsaran Majra, Umri, and the Tikli village cluster. Another two projects totaling Rs 44 lakh will focus purely on drinking water availability in remote hamlets.

Urban centers are also receiving critical support to manage rapid population growth. In addition to a combined Rs 1,129.81 crore earmarked for municipal drinking water and sewer lines in cities like Rohtak, Kurukshetra, and Rewari, the state is spending Rs 1.58 crore to strengthen the Public Health Engineering Department’s administrative systems.

“The department has been directed to complete all projects within the stipulated timeframe, promote the use of solar energy at departmental establishments and improve the collection of water user charges,” Gangwa declared. The minister maintained that this multi-billion-rupee effort will successfully raise Haryana’s total urban water supply coverage to 93 percent by the end of next March.
