Chandigarh, July 6: The Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana has delivered cashless medical treatment to over 443,906 patients across Punjab, accumulating a total expenditure of ₹782.79 crore according to recent state statistics. The medical program is designed to protect vulnerable households from high out-of-pocket hospital expenses by creating a robust network of public and private medical facilities.
“Our aim is simple, no family in Punjab should be pushed into poverty because of illness,” Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh declared while discussing the quarterly expansion of the health network. He maintained that the policy has succeeded in shifting the public burden from sudden financial struggles to organized medical care.
According to the latest compiled reports, district-wise analysis shows Patiala at the forefront of the campaign with ₹79.15 crore spent on clinical treatments. Other high-performing regions include Bathinda and Ludhiana, which utilized ₹76.81 crore and ₹60.54 crore respectively, showcasing strong hospital linkages and deep community awareness.
The practical benefits of the cashless facility are frequently discussed among rural communities. Gurmeet Singh, an elderly agriculturist from Mansa, asserted that the health initiative saved his family from selling their agricultural land to meet unexpected hospital charges.
Varying levels of participation were observed across the state, with Jalandhar, Amritsar, and S.A.S Nagar each crossing the 20,000-patient mark. Meanwhile, smaller districts such as Kapurthala and Malerkotla are showing increased penetration, and moderate-volume areas like Gurdaspur and Rupnagar continue to exhibit steady upward trends as more hospitals join the state network.
