Gurugram, July 14: A major political confrontation disrupted traffic on the Delhi-Jaipur highway on Tuesday as Gurugram police detained several opposition workers during a demonstration. The activists, led by local Congress representatives, had planned to hold a religious recitation outside the neighboring Bharatiya Janata Party office before being stopped by security cordons.
The district administration had pre-emptively secured the area within three hundred meters of the party headquarters by imposing Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. Despite receiving multiple warnings and formal notices from on-duty magistrates that the gathering lacked the necessary permits, the marchers attempted to bypass the barricades, leading to a tense physical standoff with security personnel.
The protest reflects an ongoing political campaign launched by the Congress party to raise questions regarding the management of donations for the Ayodhya Ram Temple. Party organizers maintained that their peaceful prayer gathering was intended to address public concerns regarding the issue. To restore order on the highway, officers began lifting and carrying several resisting participants, including female volunteers and organizers, into waiting transport vehicles.
“Today, the BJP has exposed itself by deploying police forces to stop devotees from chanting the name of Lord Ram,” Pankaj Dawar affirmed during the physical containment operation.
Gurugram administrative authorities declared that the police acted with complete restraint and solely within the parameters of maintaining law and order. Department officials affirmed that the intervention was necessary to clear the arterial highway and ensure that the public faced no further travel disruptions.
