Hindustan Unilever Announces ₹277-Crore Investment in Patiala

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, October 12, 2025: Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL), one of India’s largest fast-moving consumer goods companies, has announced an investment of ₹277 crore to set up a state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Patiala. The project, which will generate direct employment for 1,092 youth, marks a major milestone in Punjab’s industrial growth story.

The Punjab government said the new facility will produce a wide range of HUL’s flagship brands — including Lux, Dove, Lifebuoy, Surf Excel, Wheel, and Clinic Plus — catering to markets across northern India. The company plans to use advanced manufacturing technology to scale up production and strengthen its supply network in the region.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann hailed the investment as a “historic step” towards transforming Punjab into a leading investment destination. “What previous governments could not do, our government has achieved. We are delivering results by providing a transparent, supportive, and investor-friendly environment,” Mann said in a statement.

Officials from the Industries Department said the state government facilitated all necessary clearances — including land allotment, power and water connections, and environmental approvals — within record time, underlining its commitment to the ‘Ease of Doing Business’ initiative.

Beyond direct job creation, the HUL plant is expected to have a strong ripple effect on the local economy. Suppliers, transporters, packaging units, and service providers in the surrounding areas are likely to gain new business opportunities, while local farmers may also benefit from the demand for agricultural raw materials used in certain HUL products.

HUL has also emphasized its commitment to sustainability. The company said the Patiala plant will be designed as an eco-friendly facility, incorporating solar power, rainwater harvesting, waste recycling, and energy-efficient systems to minimize carbon emissions. “Our goal is to grow responsibly and contribute positively to both the economy and the environment,” an HUL spokesperson said.

Patiala’s strategic location — close to Delhi, Chandigarh, and Amritsar — and Punjab’s strong infrastructure, skilled workforce, and stable industrial climate were key factors influencing the company’s decision to invest in the state.

State officials believe the investment could serve as a catalyst for further industrial expansion in Punjab. “When a global name like Hindustan Unilever chooses Punjab, it sends a strong message to other investors,” said a senior official. “This project will not only bring jobs but also build confidence in Punjab’s long-term economic potential.”

For Patiala, the ₹277-crore investment represents more than just an industrial project — it’s a turning point for local youth and families. With construction set to begin soon, the upcoming plant promises to bring new opportunities, stability, and growth to the region, marking another step forward in Punjab’s journey toward becoming an emerging industrial hub in North India.
