Hisar, Aug 12 — A 24-year-old newlywed died by suicide on Sunday evening at her parents’ home in Hisar after allegedly facing months of dowry harassment from her husband and in-laws, police said.
The woman, married to an armyman about five months ago, reportedly returned to her parents on June 1 after repeated demands for a car. “Unable to take the continued harassment, she came back home. On Sunday, her husband sent divorce papers, and she took the extreme step,” her parents told police.
She was rushed to the civil hospital in Hansi after consuming a poisonous substance but was declared dead on arrival.
A Hansi police spokesperson said the body has been sent for post-mortem and an investigation is underway.
