Rajgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Sept. 30 – A Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus traveling from Dibber to Shimla overturned on the Sanora–Neripul–Chaila road in Rajgarh subdivision on Tuesday morning after a technical fault, but a disaster was narrowly avoided thanks to the driver’s quick thinking.
The accident occurred around 8 a.m. near Dhali when the bus’s suspension rod reportedly broke, causing it to lose balance. Eyewitnesses said the driver deliberately steered the vehicle into the hillside, preventing it from plunging down the steep valley. Eight passengers were on board at the time.
The driver, conductor, and one woman passenger sustained minor injuries and were taken to Theog Hospital by local residents. The Sanora–Neripul–Chaila road remained blocked until the afternoon, creating heavy traffic congestion. A crane deployed by Rajgarh police later removed the bus and restored traffic flow.
Station House Officer Rajvinder Singh confirmed the technical failure and praised the driver’s presence of mind. “The driver acted wisely and ensured the bus did not roll into the gorge. With the help of a crane, the bus was shifted and traffic was restored,” he said.
Authorities have urged vehicle operators to check technical conditions before travel, especially on hilly roads prone to steep drops.
