Tel Aviv, Feb 25: The Israeli Parliament has bestowed its highest award, the ‘Speaker of the Knesset Medal,’ upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his second official visit to the country. The ceremony took place on Wednesday after the Prime Minister addressed the Knesset, where Speaker Amir Ohana praised the leadership that has transformed the India-Israel relationship over the past decade.
The award recognizes the Prime Minister’s role in deepening the strategic bond that began a significant upward trajectory during his first visit in 2017. The Israeli government maintained that the medal reflects the profound impact of his personal commitment to international cooperation.
“PM Modi is the first leader to receive this medal,” the Speaker declared, noting the significance of the gesture within the Israeli legislative body.
The Prime Minister’s diplomatic record is notable for its balance in the region. While receiving this top Israeli honour, he also holds the Grand Collar of the State of Palestine, which he received in 2018. This dual recognition underscores a balanced foreign policy approach in the Middle East. The Prime Minister’s visit further reinforces the strategic partnership framework established nine years ago, focusing on continued security and economic collaboration.
