Mumbai, 25 January 2025- Shreyas Iyer, who is out of the Indian Test team, is currently playing Ranji Trophy and is a part of the Mumbai team. However, he performed poorly with the bat in the match against Jammu and Kashmir at Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy BKC in Mumbai. Shreyas scored 11 and 17 runs in two innings during the match. Former Pakistani cricketer Basit Ali has now reacted to Iyer’s failure. He has given a statement before the Champions Trophy that it is very easy to get Iyer out. Basit has also told the Pakistan team the way to get Iyer out quickly. The Champions Trophy is starting from February 19. India will play all its matches in Dubai, while the rest of the teams will play their matches in Pakistan. India and Pakistan will face each other on February 23.
Basit criticized Shreyas’ shot selection
Basit criticized Shreyas’ shot selection during Mumbai’s first innings against Jammu and Kashmir. The right-handed batsman was caught out wide mid-on. Shreyas was trying to hit a fuller ball from fast bowler Yudhveer Singh over the fielder. What was worse was that Iyer attempted the shot when Mumbai had lost six wickets. Basit said that this is the easiest way to get Iyer out in the Champions Trophy 2025.
‘The worst shot was by Shreyas Iyer’
He said on his YouTube channel, ‘The worst shot in that innings (Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy match) was by Shreyas Iyer. The team lost six wickets and Jammu and Kashmir pushed back mid-on, but you still hit the ball there. The easiest way to get Shreyas Iyer out in the Champions Trophy is to get him caught by pushing him back to mid-on, because he will definitely go for a big hit.”
Shardul and Tanush brought Mumbai team back
Shardul Thakur and Tanush Kotian batted well in the second innings against Jammu and Kashmir on Friday and brought Mumbai team back. Mumbai lost seven wickets for 101 runs in the second innings as well. However, the partnership between Shardul and Tanush pulled Mumbai out of trouble. The two of them brought Mumbai back into the match by adding an unbeaten 173 runs for the eighth wicket. Shardul scored his second first-class century, while Kotian scored a half-century.
Jammu and Kashmir got a target of 205 runs
