Chandigarh, October 11, 2025 — Marking a significant milestone in Punjab’s industrial journey, Japan’s leading packaging company Toppan Films has announced a fresh ₹788 crore investment to expand its facility in Nawanshahr district.
The project is expected to create 2,000–3,000 direct jobs and thousands more indirectly through logistics, supply chains, and services, giving a major boost to the local economy.
Toppan, a global name in high-performance packaging films for food, pharmaceuticals, and electronics, already operates in Punjab through a partnership with Max Specialty Films. The new investment will enhance the plant’s production capacity with cutting-edge Japanese technology, manufacturing recyclable and eco-friendly packaging materials.
Officials said the Punjab government’s industry-friendly policies and SEZ incentives played a key role in securing the project. The company’s products from Nawanshahr will not only serve Indian markets but also be exported worldwide under the “Made in Punjab” label.
To strengthen local skills, Japanese experts will train engineers in modern packaging systems, and select employees will undergo special training in Japan. The company also plans to promote women’s participation with dedicated roles and on-site childcare facilities.
The government envisions developing Nawanshahr as a full-fledged ‘Packaging Hub’, attracting more ancillary industries and foreign investors. Officials said Toppan’s investment is likely to pave the way for new projects in automobile, pharma, and electronics sectors as well.
“This investment is not just about a factory—it’s about transforming Punjab into a modern manufacturing state,” a senior official said.
