Washington, Oct 26: The former US vice president told the BBC in an interview released Saturday that she has not made up her mind about a 2028 presidential campaign but made clear she remains active in national politics. “I am not done,” Harris said, adding that she believes a woman will become president soon — “possibly” herself.
Harris, 60, said public service remains central to her life. “I have lived my entire career a life of service and it’s in my bones. And there are many ways to serve,” she said. “I’ve never listened to polls.”
Her remarks come weeks after the release of 107 Days, her book recounting the turbulent 2024 election, when she stepped in as the Democratic nominee following President Joe Biden’s withdrawal and ultimately lost to Donald Trump.
In a separate interview with The Associated Press earlier this month, Harris again left open the possibility of a 2028 run. “I haven’t decided. Sincerely. I have not decided. I may or I may not,” she said on October 17.
When pressed on whether she still wants the presidency, Harris responded, “It’s a job I wanted to do,” while acknowledging that “the only way to do it is to run” and win.
Harris has also positioned herself as a key Democratic voice as the party prepares for the 2026 midterm elections and gears up for 2028.
At the same time, early maneuvering for the next presidential race has already begun. Potential Democratic hopefuls such as California Governor Gavin Newsom, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, and California Representative Ro Khanna are reportedly testing the waters, with analysts expecting dozens of contenders to join the fray in the coming years.
