MUMBAI, Apr 19 — Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh registered a decent opening at the worldwide box office with a ₹15 crore haul on day one, riding on strong overseas numbers and growing word of mouth by evening shows.
The film, starring Akshay Kumar as lawyer C. Sankaran Nair and R. Madhavan as British counsel Neville McKinley, earned ₹7.75 crore net (₹9.25 crore gross) in India and ₹5.75 crore overseas, according to Sacnilk.
Despite a sluggish start with just 12–13% occupancy in morning shows, the historical courtroom drama saw a sharp rise to 28% by night, fueled by positive audience reactions and strong reviews.
The film beat last week’s Jaat (₹13.5 crore worldwide on day one) but lagged behind Akshay’s previous release Sky Force, which opened at ₹20 crore in January.
Directed by debutant Karan Singh Tyagi and produced by Dharma Productions, Leo Media Collective and Cape of Good Films, Kesari Chapter 2 now eyes a stronger weekend to build on its late Friday momentum.
