CHAMOLI , Aug 15. — A landslide blocked the Badrinath Highway at Bhanerpani in Piplakoti on Friday morning, leaving about 300 passengers, including pilgrims to Badrinath Dham and Sri Hemkunt Sahib, stranded on both sides of the road, officials said.
The road closure, which began around 9 a.m., has brought traffic to a complete standstill. Heavy debris and boulders covering a 30-meter stretch have rendered the route impassable.
The Bhanerpani stretch has been prone to repeated landslides. On Friday, a similar slide had halted traffic before being cleared. Today’s blockage has again disrupted normal movement.
Teams from the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) are working with JCBs and Pokland machines to remove the debris, but authorities have not given a timeline for reopening.
