LUDHIANA, Feb 21 — A local family is facing criminal charges after they allegedly defrauded a resident of nearly Rs 87 lakh by posing as intermediaries for Punjab Police recruitment. The police have launched an investigation into Harjinder Singh, his wife, and their son following a formal complaint of a “well-planned conspiracy.”
According to the police, the complainant was promised that his son would be appointed to a high-ranking post in the police department under the sports quota. In addition to the employment offer, the suspects allegedly solicited funds for a business venture, promising significant profit margins.
The investigation revealed that the victim, Parminderpal, transferred a total of Rs 86.90 lakh based on these representations. However, once the payments were completed, the accused failed to deliver on any promises and eventually stopped responding to the victim’s inquiries.
“The accused began evading the claim” when the victim demanded his money back, officials declared. The police have registered a formal case and stated that they are currently examining bank transactions and digital records to track the movement of the funds. While the suspects remain at large, the police asserted that efforts to apprehend them have been intensified across the region.
