Man Kills Father Over Front Seat Dispute

by TheReportingTimes

Dehradun, June 28: A 26-year-old man allegedly shot and killed his father in north Delhi’s Timarpur area following a heated argument over who would sit in the front seat of a tempo hired to transport the family’s belongings to their native village in Uttarakhand, police said on Friday.

The accused, identified as Deepak, was arrested from the scene. A country-made pistol along with 11 live cartridges was recovered from his possession, according to police officials familiar with the matter.

The shooting occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday near MS Block in Timarpur, where police patrol staff responded after hearing a gunshot. “A team rushed to the location and found a man lying in a pool of blood on the pavement. Locals were attempting to overpower the accused and seize the firearm,” a senior officer said.

The victim was identified as 60-year-old Surendra Singh, a retired sub-inspector of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), who had taken voluntary retirement six months ago. He was immediately shifted to HRH Hospital but was declared brought dead by doctors.

“The bullet struck his left cheek, causing extensive facial injuries due to pellet dispersion,” a police officer said.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the family had hired a tempo to move back to their ancestral village in Uttarakhand following Surendra Singh’s retirement. As household items were being loaded, an argument erupted between Surendra and his son Deepak over who would occupy the front seat of the vehicle.

“Surendra Singh insisted on taking the front seat because of the loaded cargo in the back. The son got infuriated, went inside, retrieved his father’s licensed firearm, and allegedly shot him at close range,” the officer added.

A case of murder has been registered at the Timarpur police station, and further investigation is in progress.

Police are also probing how Deepak accessed the weapon and whether any prior incidents of domestic dispute had been reported in the household.
