ANANDPUR SAHIB, November 25 — Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Monday declared that a new university named after Guru Tegh Bahadur will be established in Anandpur Sahib, marking the conclusion of the Sarv Dharam Sammelan held to commemorate the Guru’s 350th martyrdom anniversary.

Speaking at Guru Ka Bagh, Mann said the institution will be developed as an international centre for education, research and dialogue rooted in the Guru’s principles. “Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur ji sacrificed his life for truth, justice and freedom of faith. It is our responsibility to carry forward that legacy,” he said.

The announcement came a day after the Punjab Assembly held a special session in the city and unanimously passed a proposal declaring Anandpur Sahib, Talwandi Sabo and the Golden Temple area “holy cities.”

Mann said the government intends to transform Anandpur Sahib into both a spiritual capital and a nucleus of global learning, adding that further projects are in the pipeline.

Addressing the event, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said Guru Tegh Bahadur’s martyrdom remains “a unique chapter in human history,” adding that his teachings continue to guide society.

Cabinet minister Harjot Singh Bains thanked the state leadership for placing Anandpur Sahib at the centre of this year’s commemorations. “This has been a long-pending demand and will help safeguard the Guru’s heritage,” he said.

Religious leaders, scholars and devotees from across faiths attended the ceremony, which underscored brotherhood and shared human values.
