CHANDIGARH, SEPT 29: Baba Farid University of Health Sciences released its updated seat matrix on Monday, affirming that 808 positions in MBBS and BDS programs across Punjab are yet to be filled after the second round of counselling. Data shows that high numbers of NRI quota seats remain unallocated, contributing 389 seats to the overall count of vacant spots across public and private health education centers.
The MBBS division shows 307 open seats across twelve colleges in the state, with private institutions accounting for 209 and state-run institutions accounting for 98. Among government colleges, Guru Gobind Singh Medical College in Faridkot holds the largest share of open positions at 51, followed by Patiala with 20, Amritsar with 16, and Mohali with 11. Prominent private medical colleges including Bathinda, Amritsar, and Jalandhar also maintain open seats, with NRI seats making up 175 of the total 307 unfilled MBBS entries.
The BDS category reflects a total of 501 vacant seats across seventeen dental colleges, of which 214 seats fall under the NRI quota out of an overall intake capacity of 1,350. Major vacancies were observed at institutes in Mandi Gobindgarh, Dera Bassi, Sunam, and Ferozepur, alongside open seats under Scheduled Caste management quotas in several private colleges. With 1,629 candidates listed on the willingness portal, admissions process operations now move toward the third round.
