Chandigarh, March 11Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema has urged the Speaker of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha to initiate decisive action against MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira following the use of unparliamentary language. Speaking to the media outside the House, the Minister maintained that the derogatory remarks made by the Congress leader have hurt the sentiments of the public, particularly women and the laboring classes who form the backbone of the state’s economy.
The Minister asserted that the use of the term ‘bandua mazdoor’ is a direct insult to the legacy of the working class. He stated that instead of engaging in constructive debate, the Bholath MLA has resorted to personal attacks that undermine the decorum of the legislative institution. Cheema declared that his own record of presenting five state budgets dedicated to the welfare of youth, farmers, and workers stands in contrast to the questionable conduct of the opposition member.
In a firm stance, the Finance Minister challenged the credentials of the Congress MLA, suggesting that his educational and professional background requires verification. He maintained that the Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, remains committed to the dignity of every citizen. Cheema affirmed that the struggle for the respect of Punjab’s mothers and daughters will continue, and the party leadership of the opposition must answer for the shameful behavior of their representative.
