Kapurthala, Aug. 12 — A man was injured in an early morning encounter with police in Sultanpur Lodhi town of Kapurthala district on Tuesday, officials said.
The shootout took place near village Jhallewala on the Kapurthala–Sultanpur Lodhi road when a police team, acting under the Punjab Government’s special drive against criminals, attempted to stop and question the suspect.
“He opened fire on the police. Fortunately, none of our personnel were hit,” said SSP Kapurthala. “In retaliation, police also fired, injuring the accused in the leg.”
The injured man was arrested, and officers recovered his motorcycle and the pistol allegedly used in the attack from the scene. The SSP described the operation as “another big success” in the district’s ongoing crackdown on miscreants.
