Patna, April 02: A new terminal building at Jayaprakash Narayan International Airport in Patna is set to open soon, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to inaugurate it on April 24.
The terminal is expected to significantly increase Bihar’s air traffic and provide world-class amenities to passengers.
Spread over 65,150 square meters, the new terminal is significantly larger and more advanced than the existing facility. It features 52 check-in counters, five aerobridges, a multi-level parking structure, and an advanced baggage handling system.
The terminal’s design incorporates Bihar’s cultural heritage, with Mithila paintings and 3D artworks displayed on the walls.
With the new terminal, Patna Airport’s annual passenger capacity is set to rise from 25 lakh to 1 crore. The number of daily flights, currently at 34, could increase to 75.
However, the airport’s short runway (2,072 meters) remains a challenge for larger aircraft operations.
Until a new airport in Bihta becomes operational, the upgraded terminal will accommodate growing demand.
