Mohali, March 18 — Acting on a viral video showing unhygienic conditions at a spring roll and momo manufacturing unit in Mataur village, Mohali, teams from the district health department and municipal corporation raided the premises on Monday, seizing food articles and imposing fines.
During the raid, the team discovered a dog’s severed head in a refrigerator, prompting the municipal corporation (MC) to fine the owner ₹12,000 for illegal slaughter. An additional ₹10,000 fine was imposed after plastic bags were found in bulk, officials said.
Health teams also collected samples of spoiled food items, including spring rolls, momos, and sauces. The samples were sent for testing.
MC Commissioner Parminder Pal Singh said the authorities are investigating whether the unit had a valid trade license. “Other than issuing challans, we will verify if such units are licensed to operate in village areas. The main concern is to protect the public from consuming unhealthy food,” he said.
Health officials had initially visited the site on Sunday after the video surfaced online, revealing the unsanitary conditions.
