Punjab Government initiates state-wide events for Sri Guru Ravidass Ji’s 650th Parkash Purab

GARHSHANKAR / HOSHIARPUR, Feb 5: The Punjab Government has launched a comprehensive year-long series of state-wide celebrations to mark the 649th Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Ravidass Ji Maharaj. This initiative serves as the foundational phase for the historic 650th anniversary scheduled for 2027. The three-day state-level event commenced at the sacred site of Sri Khuralgarh Sahib on Wednesday, drawing a large number of spiritual leaders and devotees from across the region.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is scheduled to pay obeisance at the holy shrine on February 6. During his visit, the Chief Minister will offer prayers for the continued peace, prosperity, and communal harmony of Punjab. The government aims to utilize this year-long observance to ensure that the Guru’s message of equality and human dignity reaches every village and household in the state.

 

Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema stated that the administration is resolved to celebrate the upcoming 650th anniversary on an unprecedented scale. He noted that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the government has already started programs to sensitize students in schools and colleges about the Guru’s philosophy. “The core objective is to ensure that the life and message of Sri Guru Ravidass Ji reach every section of society,” the Minister said.

Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond described Sri Khuralgarh Sahib as a significant centre of faith for the entire nation. He mentioned that multiple programs are being planned throughout the year to prepare for the landmark 2027 celebrations. He further assured that the government has made extensive arrangements to facilitate the pilgrims visiting the shrine during the ongoing festivities.

Emphasizing the social impact of the Guru’s teachings, Cabinet Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh observed that rising above caste and discrimination is the need of the hour. He remarked that the Guru’s ideas remain highly relevant and urged the public to adopt these values in their daily lives. Other dignitaries, including Minister Harjot Singh Bains and Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak, also noted the government’s commitment to developing religious sites and fostering social justice.

The event saw participation from various prominent spiritual figures, including Sant Nirmal Das Ji and Sant Satwinder Hira. Deputy Speaker Jai Krishan Singh Rouri and Punjab SC Commission Chairman Jasvir Singh Garhi were also present to pay their respects. The celebrations will conclude with the Bhog of Sri Akhand Path Sahib, marking a significant step in the state’s spiritual and cultural roadmap.
