Chandigarh, August 13: Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema questioned the political stance of opposition parties in Punjab regarding recent statements issued over central agency communications with the Director-General of Police. The senior leader affirmed that political opponents are acting as public representatives for central monitoring bodies in an effort to maintain visibility.
Reflecting on the state’s historical governance context, the Finance Minister declared that past policies between 2007 and 2017 caused significant strain on Punjab’s economic and social framework. He maintained that widespread drug issues during that decade forced many families to send their children abroad, creating widespread public hardship across the region.
The Minister further stated that the use of central enforcement machinery against elected state leadership across different regions reflects a disregard for constitutional norms. He asserted that opportunistic political alliances and public statements aimed at misleading the public will not succeed, declaring that the current administration remains focused on serving the welfare of the state.
